[MUST READ] What is The Difference Between Main & Lead Vocalist?
Annyeong Kpoppers! OK, here! I get this question a lot. So, I will explain more details on what is the difference between “Main” and “Lead” position in a group, such as “Main Vocalist” – “Lead Vocalist”, “Main Dancer” – “Lead Dancer” & “Main Rapper” – “Lead Rapper”. Please read from A to Z… *keke* ^_^
As all of you already know, the members who got the position “Main” and “Lead” in a group are the member who got the best skills in that position. But, who got the title “Main Vocalist” in a group is basically means that he/she have the best singing skills, for example like in the chorus when the belted notes or high notes, in the background of the chorus that is usually the work of a main vocalist. Companies decide on the Main Vocalist during training. They see not only who has the best vocal range, or power but more control, they decide on the lead vocalist by seeing who can back up the main vocalist the best, what I mean by that is the lead vocalist needs to be able to still hit notes and can back up that main vocalist in a performance. So let’s say the main vocalist gets sick, the lead vocalist needs to backup for the main vocalist since the lead vocalist is usually the best after the main vocalist.
The main dancer is actually quite different from the lead dancer it’s easier to tell the difference unlike the lead and main vocalist, where there is barely a difference. The Main Dancer has the solos and skills, the main dancer must be able to free style, and at least do one type of dance like Hyoyeon of snsd she can do free style, and she can pop. Lead Dancer is like the back up dancer of the main dancer like when the main dancer has solos, usually the lead dancer appears behind the main dancer like a backup dancer, like Yuri, she is not necessarily “worst” than Hyoyeon but not as skilled so she is the lead dancer.
In other words for better understanding, Main Vocalist, Main Dancer & Main Rapper is the best in singing, dancing and rapping respectively. While Lead Vocalist, Lead Dancer & Lead Rapper is the second best after the “Main” in a group. “Main” got more challenging and harder parts than the “Lead”. But in general, “main” triumphs “lead”.
Phewww! You got it? All of you crystal-clear about this? Anybody still unclear about this? Just leave your questions or comments in the comment box, or connecting with me via Twitter: http://twitter.com/sweetestory. Kiyaaii!!!
BACON!!! LOL ~

I once read some where that the lead was the one that started it. Like started the song or dance. Is this somewhat true?
yes. lead dancer, or singer is the first person who starts the song. and the main is the person with the most parts.
oh and thank you for the info
what’s the difference between lead vocalist and vocalist?
lead vocalist is technically a pretty name for them. but lead vocalist is in the beginning of the song. they are still vocalists.
so there’s no difference between them?
oh i c
Reblogged this on paranormaldubulge.
mmm…so I think lead vocalist is the one that backup the vocal where we he/she responsible to make the vocal sound well as example jaejoong(he always the one that backup for dbsk acapella n when like chorus) while main vocalist is the one that can sing hardest part(like hitting highest note) as example junsu he always got the hardest part….so i think lead vocalist is the one that can sing most part and can sing various type of musics but main vocalist still triumph in term of powerful vocal but he cannot be the lead vocalist because his/her vocal maybe cannot mesh well with the others however he/she can be a good soloist. However, exception for 5DBSK, their main/lead vocalist always change according to their type of music present at that time like break out, mirotic n others…..

but Yuri is the one who always get the spotlight than Hyo ==
but I did not Yuri ..
SM , they always like that, the “NON-VISUAL” they will ignore ==
I thought it’s the other way around like, lead gets the challenging part like high notes ex: Jonghyun, while main gets the chorus and the low and soothing notes ex:Onew and Taemin…Hmm…it’s supposed to be like this right? Lead means leader or leading.
I’m not sure if this is correct but it’s something I’ve noticed about most if not all kpop groups out there. The Main Dancer, Main Rapper and Main Vocalist are the ones who have the best dance moves, rapping skills and vocals. Like Kahi and Hyoyeon for Main Dancers, Yubin, Miryo and CL for Main Rappers and Luna, Taeyeon and Ryeowook. The Lead Dancer, Lead Rapper and Lead Vocalist on the other hand, are the second best when it comes to singing, dancing and rapping. Right after the main. And I think the Lead Vocalists have the most lines as I’ve noticed with Krystal and 4minute’s Jiyoon
“And I think the Lead Vocalists have the most lines as I’ve noticed with Krystal and 4minute’s Jiyoon”
Well, sometimes it can differ depending on the group. For example, Sistar’s Hyorin and SNSD”s Taeyeon are the main vocalists and they get a lot of lines. While 2NE1′s Bom and Wonder Girls’ Sunye are the main vocalists of their respective groups, they may not get the most lines in songs, and most of the songs may be sung by the lead vocalists, while they a get a few lines and sing the high notes. It all depends.
